Try Using Food to Improve Your Mood

For the most part, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and must be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be extremely nutritious and good for you. Several foods actually do elevate your mood when you consume them. If you feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are fantastic for helping you combat depression. Just see to it that you don’t get rid of the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolks in particular, are rich in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be great for boosting your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that dictate your mood. Consume an egg and feel a lot better!

Put together a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be elevated by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is possible as these foods are rich in magnesium which promotes serotonin production. Serotonin is called the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not just that but nuts, specifically, are a terrific source of protein.

If you want to battle depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all loaded with omega-3 and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly boost your mood.

Grains can be good for overcoming a terrible mood. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are fantastic at helping you feel happier. These foods fill you up better and that can help you with your moods also. Feeling starved can actually make you feel awful! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest and process. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You just knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with a specific amino acid called L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This helps raise your mental acuity while calming the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you feel better. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood as well!

So you see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are not good for you to feel better! Try some of these suggestions instead.
