How to Boost Your Mood with Food

Many of us believe that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we should stay away from them. At times, if the comfort food is candy or another junk food, this is true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be perfectly nourishing and good for us to consume. There are several foods that, when you eat them, can better your mood. If you seem to be a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be really terrific at dealing with depression. You need to be sure, however, that what you make includes the yolk. When you want to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolk in particular, are stuffed full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to raise your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that dictate your mood. Consume an egg and jolly up!

Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all great for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these nuts are high in magnesium, which helps to increase your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that directs your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more serotonin in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Nuts, along with bettering your mood, can be a super source of protein.

If you want to fight depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight depression.

Grains can be excellent for fighting a terrible mood. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all good for helping you feel happier. They help you feel full as well which can really help to improve your mood. Feeling famished can actually bring you down! These grains can elevate your mood because it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest them quicker than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is truly excellent for your mood. You were sure green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps better your mental focus while calming the rest of your body. You likely already knew how easy it is to be healthy when you consume green tea. Now you are well aware that it helps you to lift your moods too!

You can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are bad for you to feel better! Go with these hints instead!
