Discover How to Elevate Your Mood with Food

Mostly, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and need to be avoided. Often, if the comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this holds true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be totally nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. Some foods actually do elevate your mood when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly great at fighting back depression. You must see to it, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, specifically the egg yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can truly help you boost your mood. This is because these vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Eat a couple of eggs to feel better!

Put together a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all helpful for raising your mood. This is possible because these foods are rich in magnesium which raises your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that tells your brain how you feel at all times. The more you have of it, the happier you will feel. Not just that, nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein source.

If you wish to defeat depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously boost your mood.

It’s not difficult to drive away your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually excellent for helping boost your happiness levels. They can help you feel full for longer also, which can help your mood too. It’s not hard to feel a little bit off when you feel famished! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are easy to digest. You digest them more quickly than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while also relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you be so much healthier. And now you know green tea can help raise your mood as well!

Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you want to help your moods get better. Test out these suggestions instead!
