Mostly, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and need to be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolk in particular, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that affect your mood. Try eating an egg and cheer up!
Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all helpful for raising your mood. This is possible because these foods have a bunch of magnesium which boosts serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that tells your brain how you feel all the time. The more you have of it, the better you will feel. Nuts, in addition to elevating your mood, can be a great protein source.
Cold water fish are great for eating if you want to beat back depression. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly raise your mood.
Grains can be excellent for driving away a terrible mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly excellent for helping raise your happiness levels. They can help you feel full for longer as well, helping you feel better. It’s not hard to feel depressed when you are starving! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. You digest them quicker than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.
Green tea is really good for your mood. You were simply waiting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid essentially stimulates brain waves. This helps raise your mental sharpness while relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you be a lot healthier. Now you know that applies to your mood too!
