Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

For the most part, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and have to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether nutritious and it’s good for you to eat them. A number of foods honestly do elevate your mood when you consume them. If you seem to be a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, you might be astonished to discover, are terrific at battling depression. You must see to it, though, that what you make includes the yolk. The egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolks especially, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you boost your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Eat an egg and jolly up!

Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all great for helping to raise your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that directs the brain how to feel at any given time. The more serotonin you have, the happier you will feel. Not only that but nuts, in particular, are a fantastic protein food source.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you wish to fight depression. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all rich in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight depression.

It’s easy to overcome your bad mood when you eat grains. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all wonderful for helping you be in a happier state of mind. These grains fill you up better and that can help improve your moods as well. Feeling hungry can really make you feel terrible! These grains can help your mood elevate as it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. You digest these foods more quickly than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is truly excellent for your mood. You knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is rich in a particular amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid actually stimulates brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while at the same relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you feel a lot healthier. And now you know it can help improve your mood also!

So you see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are not good for you so you can feel better! Try a couple of of these tips instead.
