Use Food to Improve Your Mood

Mostly, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and have to be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be super nutritious and good for you. There are some foods that, when you eat them, could boost your mood. If you feel a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, you might be astonished to learn, are great at fighting depression. Just be sure that you do not throw out the egg yolk. When you would like to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolk especially, are stuffed full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to improve your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–function better. Try consuming a few eggs to feel better!

Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all good for elevating your mood. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin production. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more serotonin you have, the better you will feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a fantastic source of protein.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you wish to fight depression. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3s. These are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you fight your depression.

It’s not hard to overcome your bad mood when you eat grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly wonderful for helping increase your happiness levels. They help you feel full also which can actually help to improve your mood. Feeling starved can truly make you feel awful! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. You digest them quicker than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is truly great for your mood. You just knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea has been found to be rich in an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps raise your mental acuity while calming the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you feel healthier. Now you know that it helps you to elevate your moods as well!

See, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Test out these hints instead!
