Learn How to Boost Your Mood with Food

A lot of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are bad and must be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Other times, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for us to consume. There are some foods that, when you consume them, could boost your mood. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional boost, test out a few of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are fantastic for helping you battle depression. Just see to it that you don’t get rid of the yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, particularly the egg yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you improve your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–function better. Try eating an egg and be happy!

Make a trail mixout of a variety of seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all wonderful for improving your mood. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given time. The more of it in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, in particular, are a great protein food source.

Cold water fish are good if you are wanting to feel better. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly boost your mood.

It’s not hard to fight your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are great at helping you feel happier. They can help you feel full for longer also, which is a mood improver. Feeling hungry can be a real downer! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. You digest them quicker than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is truly excellent for your mood. You were simply expecting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while at the same loosening up the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you be so much healthier. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood also!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try several of these instead!
